MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Opera has announced it will present five operas in its next season including the world premiere of “The Shining.”

Based on the Stephen King novel, “The Shining” features music by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec making his Minnesota Opera debut. Moravec will team up with librettist Mark Campbell and stage director Eric Simonson. Baritone Brian Mulligan will play caretaker Jack Torrance, who moves with his family into the haunted Overlook Hotel.

“The Shining” debuts in May 2016.

Other productions in the 2015-16 season include Puccini’s “Tosca,” a remount of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” Dvorak’s “Rusalka” and the first Minnesota Opera production of Richard Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” since 1987.

All productions will be staged at the Ordway Music Theater in St. Paul.
